As we come to the end of our first year it’s time to share with you what have we have achieved so far.
First up we are supporting The Prince& Princess of Wales Hospice by funding a music therapist post for 1 year costing £15,000.
What does a music therapist post involve?
The music therapist works with inpatients and also young adults from the hospice, this can vary from working 1 to 1 with someone, writing down grief in the form of words and music, working with small groups of adults or just singing outside the ward you can only imagine the joy that this brings at a difficult time.
Why did we choose this, it was an easy decision and we choose it for 2 reasons :-
I am sure he would be honoured and happy that we were funding this post in his name.
Our goal is to Help, just like Peter did,
“with a little help from his friends”.
Thank you so much to everyone that has contributed to this it is very much appreciated 🧡
We recently posted about the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice and how we are supporting them with funding a music therapist 🩵 next up we have the pleasure of supporting The Beatson Cancer Charity 💛.
Like the PPWH this was another easy decision for us to choose this charity. Peter received mostly all of his treatment at The Beatson and was a regular attender in Ward 2B. If you knew Peter he liked to research everything and in particular when he was diagnosed, he researched everything regarding treatment plans and bowel cancer. So we thought it was only right that we went down the road of research when supporting The Beatson Cancer Care.
We are supporting brand new software called Limbus AI
Here is a brief description of what Limbus AI is :-
When a patient goes for a Radiotherapy Scan at the start of treatment - there are 2 parts to a scan, 1 part will clearly identify bits they want to TARGET & Cleary identify bits they want to PROTECT - this process is called contouring which usually takes a consultant an hour. Limbus AI is software that can complete the contouring process in 10/15 minutes & send the suggested plan to the consultant to review. Which means instead of 1 patient getting treated per hour it would mean 4 patients are treated per hour which allows treatment to start much sooner.
The cost of this £63,400 for 18 months, we are delighted to say that we will be donating £4,000 to this amazing software.
This treatment is for Breast and Prostate Cancer and if all going according to plan it will be one of the firsts UK and first in Scotland.
I have included a picture of Peter in this post as we often got selfies from him, in the Beatson, during treatment, unfortunately with this selfie he was getting kept in as his PICC line wasn’t behaving.
Thank you so much to everyone that has donated to The Peter Gough Foundation and allowing us to do this 🧡💪🏻 we are making a difference.
